Subject: Older fig tree gives earlier fruits? Replies: 0

Is it true that older tree gives fruits earlier? Is it noticeable period or just few days? What are your observations? I have seen few times here, at this forum this information. So breba and main crop will be ripe faster in next years?

I will recommend Michurinsk-10 (syn. Florea I think) Very hardy, and early figs giving tree. This var. is from Bulgaria. But I can't help with Italian 258 or Col De Dame Grise cuz I don't have them.

Greetings from Poland

That's great. Huge fig tree in ground (Zone 6) That sounds very good for me. :)
I am back in home so I can show some of my fig tree. Figs grow in cold and cloudy climate of Central Europe.

Michurinska-10 (One branch survived my winter without any protection)

The only photos that I've got from yesterday. I can see small buds but I don't know if they are new shoots or figs. I wish for us very hot and dry summer.

Unfortunately for US members this is in Celsius, I coudn't find in Farenheits.

Yeah now I can say for sure that was caused by cool and humid weather. As a proof photo from today, after few very nice days.

I've just check this fig and yea, after nice weather yesterday leaves are becoming straight. So curled leaves was caused by heavy rains and high humidity I think.

Glad to hear that. We will have very nice weather for few days so I will see how fig tree will react.

No, unfortunately I didn't have any hot day, just mild or even cold days as for may days. Few days with heavy rains and lack of sun for few days, that is what I had.

figpig_66 By tender you mean weak?

As in topic, what is wrong with leaves? I didn't have any frost, so can it be a effect of have rain? The leaves are curled.

I don't know, the second site is telling that " Florea figs are known for being large and juicy" my figs (michurinska-10, florea?) were juicy, but small, not large.
I've never heard bout this figs ('LSU O'Rourke', 'Nordland Bergfeige') so I cannot help

Most Poland had temp above avg, only my south side part unfortunately had temps under avg. :(

[bbbbbbbbbb]

But you can check in my other's posts, that figs fruit survived :)

Or try with unheated hoop house. One of the best varietis for you could be Michurinska-10. Very early and very productive fig tree. Will produce a main crop, should be ripen in hoop house. In my location gave my some figs last year. I planted it near west side wall. I am from Poland. My climate is so wird. On begining of april we had +27C and 2 weeks letter we had a little snow fall and light spring frost, but thanks wall my michurinska is ok, but I think that you should start growing your figs in hoop house and in pot to can easly move out, if temp inside hoop hosue will be too high.

Bornholm diamond could be ok, in hoop house you can protect your fig tree from spring frost.

Here in Poland we speak about summer when daily avg is >15C

Regards from Poland ;)

OK, I will put this tree into plastic pot. Thanks for advice ;)

But what about digging out fig tree straight from the ground to pot only for wintertime to put it into the basement until to plant again in spring and do it for every each year. Will fig tree will suffer with this method?

Thanks for nice words about my country. :)
I only bend fig tree to the ground and I cover it by branches of conifers during winter time. We had mild winter for few years. All my grounded fig trees are alive. :)
So far this fig gave me main crop last year.

When I was a kid I could not wait for winter. Today I hate winter and cold. I would like to have some mediterranean climate, but with a little bit milder summer. ;) 32C (90F) is enough during summer.
Until forecast will not show -10C (14F) I will be not cover fig. In last year that was end of december.

Hi the first fig is in pot, so during winter time fig will be in basement. There is no any cover, it's all snow. Something about 7 cm (~2.75 inches). The second fig is Michurinsk-10 probably one of the most cold hardy fig from bulgaria, and that fig was planted in this year, so I will have to think about winter protection. But forecast are good for my location. In saturday may be +20 C (68 F) ;)

That' all

Panach also have a "holding time"? I thought that is too small for that.

Hi my figs doesn't grow since begining of August. They had meny sunshine and hot, but they didn't grow. I marked line on fruit, and the line is now on te same place like month ago. They grew very well and fast in July, but in August they stopped development. This fig tree grows in pot.

These are roughly my details for August in Celsius. Max and min.
