This is old school my neck of the woods. Before there was rat or mouse poison.
I was told to kill mice and hopefully rats, farmers use to coat oat meal with Portland cement.
The cement clogged up the plumbing and killed the unwanted creature.

I would remove the little fig.The cutting is using alot of energy to produce a fig.
I have a few figs on cuttings I need to remove.I know how hard it is to remove
the fig.You do not want to cause damage and have to start over rooting another cutting.

Sorry to hear of your loss.
I worry about the municipality water supply killing the cuttings.
There is a local spring close to my mothers house.
I am now watering the fig trees with the spring water.

Good idea for a short term use green house.

I would be worried about the Sun uv rays effect on the bottles.
Could requirer a lot of raking after a nor'easter.

Or maybe the person is color blind.

Driving force is the need to have a fig tree very few own.
The cuttings being sold are from trees that probably will
never be sold at nurseries.Plus buy now pay later, makes it to easy
to over spend on a want to have.

Rooting cuttings in a quart Deli containers, with 50/50 mix of potting soil and perlite.Has been the best
way for me.Once rooted you can let the tree grow, without having to replant in a larger container,at least
until it is root bound.

Hello everybody,
I live in coastal North Carolina ,few minutes drive I can be in the historic city of New Bern.
I enjoy growing fig trees, when you have taken care of the tree. The weather has been just right, the tree will Reward you with some mighty tasty figs to eat.

I have two in ground fig trees and seven individual trees in quart containers.

I still have to master the art of rooting cuttings.I have five cuttings in 50/50 perlite and potting soil.
I am going to try sphagnum moss on the next cuttings I root. When the cuttings root, transfer them
To cups with coarse perlite as the growing medium.

Thank you for listening,

Jimmy

The above link is where I place the order. But what I believe what is causing the $50.00 fee is the ornamental ficus cuttings. I,ll put in another order and leave out the ornamental ficus.

I did a search going by what I read there is a repository in Miami,Florida. The cuttings have to be shipped from Florida.

I placed a order for fig cuttings, set up a FedEx account.
When I get home this evening,I checked my emails.
Before I forget,Hello everybody,as you can see I am new here.
Is it worth the $50.00 for the certificate? You can buy a lot of cuttings for &50.00.That I know will survive NC weather.

Below is a copy of the email,

Hello:
We have received your request for germplasm as follows: Ficus
We do not distribute live plants, only cuttings (as in budwood) rhizomes and seeds when available. The material listed does not produce seeds here in Miami. Most of the material requested is distributed as budwood to be grafted on to existing rootstock grown by the recipient.
The State of Florida Department of Plant Industry (DPI) charges $50 for the phytosanitary certificate (DOES NOT APPLY TO FLORIDA RESIDENTS). This is required of all plant material crossing state borders. You need to send us a check made out to DPI (not the USDA) Florida. This cost is the same regardless of the amount of budwood being sent.
The recipient is responsible for the cost of shipping from the SHRS germplasm collection. For convenience in expediting shipment of the requested material, the recipient should set up a UPS/DHL/FedEx account, we will send the specifics of package size and weight. The recipient can generate a label as a pdf file and send that to us to affix to the package. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. Upon receipt of confirmation of the UPS/DHL/FedEx account set up, we will work with you on filling this request.
Upon receipt of the check for the phytosanitary certificate we will work with you on filling this request.
Regards,
L
