Simons,
Here is not the right platform to discuss such things.
I know my ancient history very well and I again and repeatedly say "I am proud of my hero ancestors,Ottomans."
I have good reply for your all questions but first, questions should be quality enough that worth to reply. If anything related with figs it is ok.If not I don't reply .

SimonS,
As I mentioned above I don't want to discuss the history or political issues we are here for figs ,please DON'T forget this.

If the problem is the name of the fig "Urfa" then I advice you to look at this history background of "Caliymra" fig origin and where it is come from California! (California -Symnra).
Alhamdulillah we are living a fig heaven country and eat our Own figs here and ,

Thanks to Allah, our fig trees are growing well on the remnants of all the Martyrs' blood that gave their soul for this land .

Our ancestors Ottomans behaved equally all the nations in their lands thats why they are Great Emperor.

We are in Turkey DON'T support ISIS or DAESH,they are not related with Islam.

I like all my American friend here including you because you are caring plants so you must have sensitive soul ,won't you ? and they are all really polite and respectful towards me .

Lastly,in our culture there is a motto that I want to share with you
"if someone throw a mud,you give him a bread"
(It is not an info from Wikipedia)
:)

Hi Robert yes it is cold hardy variety and it can resist low degrees in winter that was -18C last year in my region .
Sobelri,
Yes we call urfa pepper as " isot " and it is hot chilly pepper and don't have any experience growing it because I really hate eating hot chillies.

Let's stick to figs.

I just mentioned the history of my country and all countries have their own enemies and also gained independence in their own history so I don't mean any bad intention with my statements. Also our President, too.

I cover it with sand because I want to keep them warm in winter ,normally you can bury all parts of cutting but I don't cover it all that can help them to start rooting process .Sand method can be used both rooting or keeping .

This is Dumanli Kara fig that is rarest common black fig in my country.I found it in an island and it has high quality figs with excellent rich flavor, that topped the list of my favorite figs. It bears large black figs with red pulp, that gets more intense when it's fully ripe.It has nice violet color and has unique flavour.Blue to dark purple skin.Red pulp that occasionally turns deep redvigorous plant.Mid season variety

Rolling River Nursery here in the US sells it as Bursa Siyahi but one grower had their tree produce a ripe green fig. My first young tree finally produced ripe purple figs around the first of January and they were tasteless. Here there wasn’t enough heat that time of year to ripen them to the perfection you show in your pictures. I hope this will change as the trees get older.

Yes Mara ,when it gets older it will be ok for sure. Our black bursa fig has some strains we grow here.It is called them according to village that they are grown .For ex Durdane,Caglayan,Akca is the villages that they grow mainly Bursa black .Yes I heard about some nurseries sell Bursa black in USA that is not real. Also we have a different climate here especially some winds make the fig bark thicker that is suitable for exporting .

Balkanlarin Grisi ( Turkish name) is a common fig grown in my backyard.
It is small size but very productive and very sweet. This fig tree was grown by my grandfather many years ago and we are so fortunate to inherit this special variety. According to my grandfather, this variety was introduced to our country by the Balkan immigrants who immigrated during the Balkans war. The fruit is one of our family favourite and children's enjoy this sweet, almost like a candied berry flavoured fig very much.
I am really happy to introduce such a rare variety to other figgers.
