I'm so sorry for you,
i hope you can soon get back the plants and things that you have lost.

It's heartbreaking, i don't know how i would react if it happened to me.

My best wishes for a better future.

Good luck.

Is the Grise olivette color real or photoshopped?

Never seen anything like it, can be a bud mutation (sport) that caused this color.
If so, it might be a really awesome new cultivar!

Very nice, i hope it's as good as beautiful, and leaves are also beautiful looking.
Almost all the edible seedlings i found are terrible tasting or too small.
I have a Longue d'août (i think) seedling that show a foliage similar to yours, i will keep it.

Don't expect a real picture from an italian nursery. They put random pics on their websites (often taken from fora or other websites), and put haphazardly labels on plants for sale.
I saw the same picture on 3 websites, for 3 different varieties.

There may be more than one 'della signora',
but the variety on sale should be unifere, with green-violet skin.

Really beautiful looking figs!
Resembles a lot the variety Birdi (birdi=green in Sardinian).
Old specimen:
[birdialbero]
[birdi5]  [birdi2]  [birdi4]
[birdisemi]

These fruits are caprified, look at the seeds.
The taste is not my favorite, berry like, but lacking the aroma of the dark varieties and the sweetness of the white ones.

A "Dall'osso" shaped fruit:
[birdifruttostrano]  [birdifrutto4]

How is the taste of your Santa Pau?
These could be the same variety or very similar, belong to the same Adriatic group i guess.

Yes Jdsfrance,

the plant is in pot. I have also Dorée and have leaves a little different, more similar to Dalmatie.
The pulp is red because is caprified, this fig had very hard seeds.
This plant is 1 year old, has not yet produced brebas and i don't know if does.

This was a tiny plant, this year has grown so much, but is noth higher than 40 centimeters, has many ramifications, and i prefer bushy fig trees because are easier to care than those with tree habit, so when a plant branch soon and become multistem i don't prune, free to grow as the plant wants.

This is obviously not Noire de Caromb, but in this case i'm happy for the mistake because this is a really delicious variety, though very small.

Thanks!
This plant (Miel du Portugal) is strictly unifere, plus fruits are small, though very good.
Here most of the fig trees for sale have false labels, than you really don't know what you have bought until you see first fruits.
With plants purchased on the Internet, usually, this does not happen, so i'm disappointed.

Jdsfrance do you have a Dorèe?
Do you find similarities with Mère Véronique?

This is the so called Mére Vèronique from Lubera (i assume Lubera is the source), looks like a Dorée.
Leaves are deeply 5 lobed, fruits are elongated, with brown skin and reddish pulp, sweet flavor.

[m_re_v_ronique_foglia]
[m_re_v_ronique]
[m_re_v_ronique_mano]  [m_re_v_ronique_met]

This is a variety purchased under the name Miel du Portugal. The site of the nursery where i purchased this plant shows a picture of a reddish fig, but this is a white fig.
After some research i found that this plant came from a nursery located in France, that stokes the italian nursery.
In my opinion is very similar to Dottato or Pingo de Mel, leaves are 3 to 5 lobed, fruit has green/yellow skin and amber pulp, very very sweet.
The french nursery sells also Dottato.
I hope it's another variety because this plant was expensive and i don't like to spend money with a variety that i can find a step away from home or i have already!
In the following pics is shown a fruit with black stained skin.

Hi!
This plant was labeled as Douqueira Negra, that is a synonim of Noire de Caromb, but doesn't seem a NdC.
It's a young plant, with bush habit, seem to be a late variety, since only some fruits are ripened, and there are many unripe. Fruits are very small.
The fruit stem is short, the skin has some ribs and it's dark wine colored.
The pulp is pinkish and fruits are sweet and good even if picked not perfectly ripe.
Leaves are mostly 5 lobed, some 3 and some not lobed.

Hi!
Yesterday i collected some profichi to pollinate my figs from two different trees in the wild. I could not hang the profichi on my trees and the profichi stayed at home.
Today i saw some dead wasps near the profichi, and some walking over.
I collected all the live wasps approaching a small piece of paper towel, altough they are microscopic it's easy to do, they climb up the paper and can be put on figs.
Only one entered immediately trough the ostiole, the others seemed to be confused about what to do.
I cut in half some profichi and are full of dead wasps. Why this appened?

Hi Pino, is the dark on the bottom. Brebas are almost identical to those of Melanzana (Melanzana from central Italy), except for the interior color that is dark violet and not white.

Thanks Eaglet. I fear that a net is insufficient, it could not stop the ants, that gnaw the skin and enter in the ostiole.

Thanks Eli, not often found figs for sale here, and i honestly would not buy a flavorless fig from market.

The strange thing is that fruits on abandoned trees seem fine.

Regarding cuttings i lost Col de dame noir and gris, palmata and some other; i managed to graft the remains of some cuttings, but bud grafts
do not seem to work (maybe tissues were damaged).

I will not discourage, i hope that it will get better in the future.

i could not taste a breba this year due to the fly larvae, ants, crows and jays.

This is the worst year ever for my figs, i am a victim of a sorcery? Ahaha!!!

Almost all my cuttings are died after rooting, without apparent reason, some have never rooted, and do not know how get them back, at least those that i wanted so much.

The last decent rain fell in October of 2015 , and the summer has not even started (we have
30-35°C every day), the plants planted this year are in poor condition, although irrigated frequently.

Regarding fruits i'm feeding fly larvae:

I do not doubt that this plant is very old, but in Europe end north America, in past centuries, there was the "Little Ice Age", and i assure you that in north Italy also died apple, plum, cherry and pear trees sometimes.
You think that sometimes are also frozen harbors, like Marseilles and Genoa in 1709, end even the mouth of the Tagus in Lisbon!

I'm sorry to spoil the enthusiasm, but it's impossible that this tree is 460 years old.
First, a fig tree doesn't live so long, secondly in winter 1683-84, Thames was completely frozen for three months,
between 1608-95,Thames was frozen 12 times, and even up to 1814, last time.
How can a fig tree pass all of these extreme weather events as well?

I don't have these varieties, then i can not give you more information, of those that i can find on the sites (very few).

'Panino' should be native of Abruzzo, 'dell'Abate' also known as 'Albachiara' is from Apulia.

I think that exists two types of figs:
figs for people that love eating figs, and figs for people that like to have a collection of figs.
Sometimes i think if it's worth to have so many fig varieties, like some people.
Why these people accumulate hundreds fig varieties? These are figs, not figurines!
I bet that these people eat only the fruit of 4-5 favorite varieties and discard the others.

I dont't envy the owners of Ponte Tresa or other rare varieties. I too have rare varieties, that i'm sure are unknown elsewhere (except those wich i've given), no one can say that mine are worst than Ponte Tresa.
I admire the sellers for their marketing ability, high prices are made by buyers.
There was a lot of promotion for this variety, the work has paid off, it's a "business variety".

Nazarti and Nazareth are the same variety?
I know the Nazareth, i have a small plant.
This variety was imported in Europe in Spain from Israel for the early breba crop; it's a San Pedro type, the second crop is less important (this is what i read, mine hasn't fruited yet).
I don't have informations about hardiness, it's a middle eastern variety, i think that will not have to overcome harsh winters.

I guess that there are problems in tropical areas, maybe many of the best cultivars for mediterranean and temperate climates dont produce well in the tropics, right?

Would be very interesting to know more about new japanese varieties, i tried to do some resarch but is difficult to insert the right keywords to find japanese articles, and the translation feel sorry and i don't understand anything.
How many varieties have been released by japanese? Who are the parents?
I'm interested in hybridization ( i don't think of getting exceptional stuff, but playing with hybrids is funny).

I agree what has said snagplus, caprified BT are very sweet and tasty.
This variety needs hot and dry summers for ripen good fruits, and althoug it's suitable for cool climates, in cold climates don't give good fruits.
For example i think that longue d'aout, altough sweet, is not as good as many people says.
If you have many varieties, will tend to choose some, discarding others.

My first Panachée of this year.
Very sweet and tasty, surely caprified, with bloody red pulp and crunchy seeds.
Unfortunately i didn't take pics of the interior.
Last year were very acidic, like unripe blackberries. This year have a berry note, balanced by the sweetness.

the climate is typical mediterranean, i live at 39th parallel, so it's favorable for all mediterranean fruits, and near the coast also grow tropical fruits like mangoes or lychees, there are some plantations.
My village  it's a little
colder, but grow well citrus and avocado, for example.

Hi Hershell, trees are abandoned because are in a field used for grazing, but fortunately isn't fenced and anyone can go to collect fruits. Here fruit trees are very common along the roads, and passers-by can pick figs, pears, prickly pears, and other.
This field is located a few meters from a river, where caprifig is widespread, so these figs are  definitely caprified.

Blastophaga is more common than we think, but i don't think that it is, look different.
You should open a syconium, if you see the galls, or rather tiny insects, without a long "tail",  you can be sure that it is Blastophaga.
I picked some caprifigs and there were more non pollinating wasps than blastophagas, in others lots of blastophagas, and in still others there was nothing...

The white edible can be a Dottato or Kadota.

These are trees of the variety Niedda, i mentioned it in other topics.
Trees of this size are quite common here, mostly of this variety.
Unfortunately are abandoned, and some are damaged by fire and cattle, but are very productive.

To pick fruit isn't difficult due to the height, branches touch the ground.
The harvest:

In this field i found two great other varieties that there were no trees in my village, one white, that i don't know the name, and another called Murra (=grizzled in sardinian), because it's neither black or white, that i was looking for a long time. I'll talk about in august, when ripen fruits.

About 1 km from my orchard there is a row of fig trees. Two of these trees are very big, about 7 meters
tall, with a canopy that covers several square meters.
Probably the trees are 50 years old or more.
Maybe, from the photos, you don't realize the true scale of these ones.

Hi Francisco,
thanks for the info.

The syconia looks full of seeds, maybe the "seeds" that i've seen are wasp galls (caprifigs are still unripe); a caprifig that i've checked in another village looked empty, and probably inside there were no galls.

Probably i'll have to wait a few weeks. Many figs are already big, when caprifigs are ripe my figs will still be receptive for the pollination?

ps: how are cuttings?

I would try to caprificate my figs, but there aren't still blastophagas in the syconia of the caprifigs.
I checked about twenty caprifig trees, but the pollen isn't yet formed, and neither a wasp.
Maybe it's still too early in my area for caprification? 1st May i've seen millions of wasps out of the mamme,
but now nothing at all.
