Nick, since you're in the neighborhood, let's meet at some point and come November, when the trees go dormant, we'll exchange some cuttings.

It is a great breakfast for sure!
I have a huge tree, about 15' tall and 15' across and the only way i can use a net is by laying it over the branches and that hasn't worked well with the growth of the branches, they curl up and stop growing! So, I have no other choice but to share it with nature and that includes squirrels, small birds, parrots and crows.... And I end up losing a good 25% of my crop!

Thanks Nick they are delicious! The problem is my brebas are not too many to go around, also, I have a two legged critter at home; my daughter, who does not want to share any with even myself or my wife. But, once the main crop comes in, I might have some for sale, let's keep in touch!

I have people who grow it in zone 6, but it's grown in pots. I don't have any tested in the ground yet! Although, where it came from originally, temperatures dip below freezing.
It produces brebas early June followed by the main crop in mid-July. So, I would consider it amongst early ripeners.

To the best of my knowledge, it does not require pollination.
As far as the Lebanese name, figs were identified in Lebanon by their color, as in Black and or Yellow figs, but this fig did not come from the Bekaa valey, instead, it came from one of the two adjacent villages in Lebanon; either Baskinta or Bteghreen.

Here is an update and a follow-up on my Lebanese Black/Purple Breba.
When fully ripe, it is juicy, sweet, complex with a hint of acidity that lingers in your mouth!

Hi Sas,

When it comes to a large, established tree in the ground, it is a lot easier to maintain than a small tree, especially in a pot. I simply water it once every 7-10 days and fertilize it once every 3-6 months.

Parrots and squirrels are constant problems to most of my fruits the least of which are my poms. You will lose a few here and there during the season but having a huge tree with a lot of poms on it has its advantages!

Hi Kevin,

Unfortunately I don't know the name of this variety. I got the cuttings from a relative years ago without inquiring about the variety. All I know is that it is the sweetest pomegranate I've ever tasted.

Hello greenfig,

In answer to your question about training a pomegranate plant as a tree, I attached a current picture of my 25 year young tree, that is well over 15' tall with a spread of 15' or so.
The ladder underneath is a 6' ladder!
The maintenance of the tree is much easier than the bush and pleasing to the eye! All you need to do is prune it once a year around December, here in Burbank, CA.

Hello Drew and Vito,

Currently I'm completely out of cuttings till November. If I fail to connect with you at that time, drop me a line to remind me.
Here are some updates on my figs; the picture of the tree is current with a 6' ladder underneath, the rest are from the summer of 2015!

My Kadota (I do not have it any more) looked very similar to yours, very sugary, same color inside and outside.
It had a relatively tough skin (not thin at all), how about your fig?

Unlike the Kadota, this one has a fairly thin skin (As you can see in the picture) and very soft. Also, the pulp on this one is honey/yellow in color, whereas the Kadota has more of a strawberry red color. The jury is still out!

Suzi, any seedless variety is out of the question because this one has seeds. Thanks for the suggestion though.

For those who were interested in seeing a picture of the leaves, here are 2 variations from the same tree, and so far I've received more than 10 guesses???  Regardless of the name or the label, one thing is for certain;  the taste, the texture and the appearence are inviting, mouthwatering and delicious. I bought this tree some 20 years ago from Fedco (A local store in Van Nuys, California) and along the way I lost the tag. But, due to its appearance and honeylike taste I named it "Giallo Miele" which translates into Yellow Honey.

In a recent blog on Rafeds Fig Group, Bass Samaan shared his thought on the "Lebanese Black/Purple" figs.
Thank you Bass for sharing your thoughts about this variety. To set the record straight, I recently joined the "figs4fun" group and I wanted to introduce this little known variety to the fig community, just like you or anyone else would... Do you view this as a "Promotional" act... Not at all, that is not my intention!
Also, in my introduction, I stated that this variety is very sweet, meaty and intense. I stand by my statement. To each their own. You've mentioned that "Your cousin; who is a normal person who enjoys figs and other fruits; who came by and bought some figs from me, felt that they are not sweet at all", and advised you not to bother getting any cuttings.
I am not trying to promote this variety, nor am I trying to convince people to own it, I'm only stating facts. Given the right amount of time for this fruit to ripen and mature on the tree, it gets very sweet and juicy. Besides, the skin might have a slight acidity to it, but if you want it sweeter, peel the skin off and there is your "Gem"!
I invite anyone who plans on being in my area this summer, to stop by and have a taste!

It is only recently, (No more than 6 or 7 months ago) that I began sharing this cultivar with the fig growers, some of whom live in colder zones, namely Bass, but it is too early to know how well it will do in those areas...
