Scfigfanatic, are you kidding me... you got banned from the forum and I emailed you even after that. What was the point in me posting when the person who did it was banned? Quite rude you automatically said that about me... Specially being you also never tried contacting me. Your experiment yielded 5/10 for me using your method exactly as you stated. You had all my contact information if you had any questions or cared of the results. But to be honest I also had no want to get involved with the drama you started on the other forum. So thats also why I didn't post my results but again you also were banned at the time and it wasn't exactly a post any one wanted much to do with. Anyway, sorry everyone but I don't appreciate that and wanted to say my peace. Post closed.

Seriously? Are you just trying to make things difficult or cause drama? I haven't been on here in months and months cuz I haven't had the luxury of enough free time. If you don't want them then is it necessary to tell us you don't? If anyone wants them then let me know. Considering I don't want much for them and the varieties you'll get someone may want them. I rooted a few about 3 weeks ago using the cup method.

I'm getting a lot of messages for people wanting just certain ones but remember the first person who wants them all will get them. I do not have time to sale them in small sets unfortunately. They will be cheaper than most or any other source. They have been wrapped in saran wrap and placed inside ziploc bags for probably 4 months in my veggie crisper.

Unfortunately I don't have a list made yet but figured I'd go ahead and see if anyone had any interest before all the time to list them. I have 2 plastic grocery bags of different cuttings. 1-3 of each variety for the most part. This has probably 8-10 sets of found or unknown figs also. Varieties are CdD B/N, Violette soleis, Preto, BM, Kathleen black, and so many more. I want to sale these all together or in as few shipments as possible. Anyone interested please let me know and I'll get a list for ya. I am not trying to make a bunch of money, just trying to not go in the whole with what I paid. I'm thinking around $2 per cutting or so. I'm not charging by the name/variety but a cheap price per cutting or set. I know nearly all the sources and they are basically all members here. I don't want these to go to waste so I want to sale them cheap to someone who wants them. Sorry for the long speech. Message me if you have any interest or questions.

I just bought and started using gnatrol from a guy on EBay who's username is the name of the gnatrol he uses (I think). Anyway, I'm hoping it kills them cuz they got bad in my grow room. Plus I've got fly strips hanging and they are covered after a week.

Perlite never worked for me cuz my weird hours at work. They would dry out and if I tried to keep that from happening, I'd have to over water and they died from that. I'm just now trying long fibered Sphagnum. Hopefully I can make it work. Still new to it all

Room temp is probably 64-68 because I'm one of those people who like it cool, can't sleep otherwise lol. 64 at night and around 68 during the day just because all the lights being on. The pump it came with is "Aquatop" NP-305 317GPH. I keep the cloner on top of a wooden shelving unit. There is a window directly beside the cloner and a large 2800 lumen cfl in a reflector directly over the cuttings.

This seems to be the thread for help on cloners so hopefully someone will chime in. Most people seems to have the problem of the pump heating the water too much but mine is the opposite. My water temp won't stay high enough. I've got it under CFLs with towels wrapped around the bottom to try and help but every 18-24 hours I have to change my watet to keep the temp above 65. I'll start it at 85 and it drops within 24 hours at least. Any ideas? I don't have a heat mat but would it help? The base of my cloner (Clone King 36) has feet that elevate it so those are all that would touch the heat mat if I did that. I'll take any advice or help. Thanks

Brooklynmatty, I'm also about to buy one of those you mentioned. I think the first looks like a better package but idk which is actually better. You decide or find any info or better choices? For the price, those are the best deals I found as well.

I really want a good tasting, large Fig and I'm looking at Stella, LW, Dalmatie, Galbun, and Dr. Gowaty. Can't decide which will be the best but being LW seems more readily available I may end up with it anyway but seems to be a good one from what I'm reading here.

Here is what is held on site at UC Davis

http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/site_holding.pl?DAV

Just choose what your looking for (such as Ficus carica), then scroll through that list of Fig trees they have and click the request germplasm/Ascension link, if its available. Obviously not all will be available.

I've started rooting larger cuttings just recently. These are 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. So far they seem to be doing well but they are just now ready for Potting after being in water for a couple weeks so the nodes would expand/root nodules would form. Here is a quick pic I just took of one but they all are showing nodes like this. Obviously I'm still new and I have no idea how likely this is to actually root and survive but seems good so far. Second pic is a very green cutting of Flanders that I've only had a couple days now but is already showing root nodes that are swelling which is quick compared to the others it came with. Maybe the variety and environment the tree came from plays a role in how well the cutting will root. Obviously the more the nodes the better your chances but there seems to be many factors the grower can't control which may influence the success or failure of the cutting. Idk for sure just observations and my very little experience.

Awesome group there. I hope to one day all of those lol. So far I have one! Hopefully my RdB will Fruit next year but since I've just gotten into Fig collecting, I have no experience growing yet. Really next year will be my first season so I don't know what to expect. Just hope I get the Fig trees on my wish list before then. It will be nice when I get to see and eat my first Fig (sad I've never even seen one in person lol I know) but actually growing and picking my own will be even better. Awesome figs Herman, congrats on having an awesome collection. I bet having a family to share your joy/hobby with is just great, until they eat them... :/

I also have never eaten a Fig but this thread will definitely help me when searching for plants and cuttings this winter. I tried rooting Adriatic JH but being my first try at rooting I failed. Now I have better Potting mixes, Perlite, vermiculite, etc so hopefully my next attempt will succeed. I have a few plants that will hopefully produce next year (Hardy Chicago, Scott's Black and MvsB plus my Mission and Yellow Neches cuttings which are rooting and I hope will survive. Thanks for the awesome info here everyone.

Like Richie said, just plant your cutting about 1-2 inches into Potting mix and leave them alone, just make sure they stay moist but not soaked. They do take awhile to root in good and begin new top growth but like he said, once they do there is no stopping them. Mine, purple flesh, were 8 inch cuttings 4-5 months ago and now they are a couple feet and some I have side branches which are big enough now that I can clip them and use it to start another. That's what I do anyways, instead of clipping it early I'm letting the first couple grow so I have a couple backups. Never know when something could happen to a plant. I also want to grow a yellow selenicereus megalanthus, badly but haven't found anyone to sale me cuttings for a reasonable price. Good luck growing yours!

Agreed, I'd def rather have dormant cuttings rather than fresh summer cuttings. I have had better luck. Lignified wood always roots better for me. I've had almost 0 success with green cuttings thus far but I'm just learning a lot of the ways you guys have found to work. Hey GreenFin, are you keeping any kind of updated list of what people ordered? I've placed 3 orders so far but now I can't remember what and how many I ordered. No biggie or anything if not, just curious. If you are and you get a little free time and don't mind, can you PM the info? If you need my PayPal ID let me know. Thanks again for everything.

Crazy people filed disputes anyway. Even if unclear of the shipping dates. Everyone I've talked to and dealt with so far are more than nice and generous. Now if it was spring and I hadn't received them I might be wondering. But I have no worries that I'll get my cuttings. I don't even check the thread for info on when you'll ship cuz I don't doubt that I'll get them. Only reason I check back is to see if more varieties have become available so I can buy more. I agree with rcantor, shame on them. If you cut and ship mine last I won't complain. Can't beat the price and selection, especially for a newbie like me. Thanks for doing this and please let us know when the rest become available. I really want some of those :D

Probably best for some others near you to respond. I'm def not the guy cuz I'm a newbie :/ obviously Black Madeira is awesome if you have a long enough season or can provide it with this by using a greenhouse or something. VDB is suppose to be amazingly tasty. Kathleen Black is supposedly the new queen of black Figs but some say it can take 2-3 years to produce but idk. JH Adriatic is one of the best green Figs and seems to do well for most. I believe, could be wrong, that desert king is good mostly just to have an early crop but doesn't produce a main crop. So its good to have Figs as early in the season as possible. Black Greek and CdDB is also said to be great and are sought after. That's what I know which isn't much but since no one else had replied thought I would help. Your lucky enough to get all those awesome cuttings that most of us newbies would kill for, not literally... I guess lol. You could try rooting them all cuz all of them probably won't make it. That way you get what you want and don't keep a few and most don't make it. But obviously if you already have it or don't have the zone/temps for it then I'm sure others would love to grab them up. My couple cents on it. Sorry for the long reply that might not help.

@Llamalady-Congrats on getting your first good crop of Figs. Must have been great when you realized how goot it was, especially after trying one that wasn't ripe before. I've been looking locally at nurseries for any fig trees but no luck. If I can't find good cuttings it might be awhile for me but I'm hoping some pop up soon.

@bamafig-Thats good for me. It's actually one of the few I was hoping to get anyway because I found a post about what people thought were their best Figs in their area and Celeste was on most of the NC growers list. Is there anyone or anywhere that you know of that sales cuttings for a good price? I am afraid I won't be able to get them to root and hate to spend a lot for just 2 cuttings that I kill lol.

@rcantor-Thanks for that info. I just hope I can get any at this point lol.

Hey Everyone! I'm a complete fig newbie. I've really never tasted or even seen an actual fig or fig tree. I've had processed or packaged fig products but that's really it. I've gardened, vegetables, most my life with my family but now that I have my own garden and small greenhouse I've decided to let up on vegetables and to grow things I'll actually enjoy more. I am a fruit fanatic! I could eat fresh fruit all day everyday. So I'm trying to get things as I can afford to, a little here and there. There is one item that in most of my research has been fairly universal and that's of course Figs. People seem to live fresh Figs and I know I'm missing out lol. So I want to grow some Figs. I live in zone 7 in NC which is hot, humid summers and below freezing winters. From what I've read, Violette de Bordeaux seems to be lived by most. Plus Celeste, Mission, Brown Turkey, etc. For me I'd be happy with any fresh fig at this point. So I'm hoping someone out there can help me out. I don't have much but if I can get something growing I'll be happy. I do have Panama Red Passion flower seedlings, Sweet Sandpaper Fig seedlings (Ficus Opposita, supposedly the best Sandpaper Fig, Holy Basil/Tulsi seedlings (Rama), a couple Panax Ginseng (2 year old roots) and a small Venus Fly Trap (2 inch, from leaf pulling) if anyone is interested in trading. Sorry for the long post and thanks ahead of time for any info, cuttings or both.
