You don't need fancy expensive tools to graft. Just buy a cheap utility knife and some replacement blades. This is all I use and my success rate is pretty high.

so for us Arizona peeps, since we really don't have a real winter here, will you be shipping plants to us when they're ready in the winter? Around what month you think? December or January?

My cuttings didn't root unfortunately. I hope someone on here will offer cuttings in the future. I'll try grafting it next time instead.

I love watching your videos Joe. I can't wait until I have fruiting trees like yours in ground. Are your trees planted straight in our native soil or did you amend? and how often do you water them?

looking great! What's the earliest you can ship these trees out? I'm not being impatient, I'm more concerned about the heat here in AZ if you were to ship my order in June. May maybe even too hot.

My only concern was the time-line for this shipment.  July here means 110* heat.  Figure 125* in the trucks on the loading dock.  If AZ and CA shipments might go out in spring, they stand a lot better chance of not arriving as steamed vegetables.

yeah this is what I'm worried about since July is pretty darn hot over here in AZ, especially if they're shipped bare root. I've ordered lots of plants in the past that weren't bare root, just a bagged rootball. Shipping them in May would be a better time if they're ready by then. June might be good still, but it's a gamble.

bumping this amazing thread! This is what I plan on doing in the coming years since I don't have much room in my yard for more trees. I plan on using my ficus auriculata as the rootstock since it's such a vigorous grower here. I hope it's compatible and won't give me problems.

You're on point about the countless products out there that are marketed to us gardeners that aren't needed or some just plain useless. Most of these people or websites that promote them giving them awesome results are the very same people that sell them or possibly sponsored by the company that sells them. People just need to approach these products with some skepticism. Don't be gullible, and do some research yourself before handing over your hard earned money. I would even do some experiment on your own plants to see if these products do indeed give dramatic results before recommending them to other fellow gardeners. In fact, there's quite a few videos you can find on youtube that shows people performing experiments with control subjects.

People have been successfully growing plants for years and years without all these quick results / magic dust products. I've been telling people to just keep things simple and use compost, and mulch to bring in organic matter into their soil. Don't complicate things. All these micro-organisms already exist in the soil and air, and compost we put into the soil.

I'm on the same boat as you! I'm hooked on how easy these trees are to grow here. I'm looking to get several cuttings here soon to start with.

I have two of these fig trees growing here in Arizona. One I planted in ground and the other left in a big pot. I got these to just try and see how it'll do in our summer heat here with their big leaves. I was pleasantly surprised on how well this tree does here! Full blazing sun all day and very little burn on the big leaves, and it loves plenty of water! Very fast grower too!

This picture below was taken in the beginning of March of this year. The main stem was killed back in a freeze last winter. It was newly planted that winter and I didn't protect it from the frost and freeze. It's growing back from the roots.

This is a picture of it today. About 4ft+ tall?

Trunk has a decent girth to it. This is 8 months of growth.

I'm growing this mainly for ornamental. I've read the figs aren't that great but I haven't tasted them yet. No figs from this guy yet, maybe next year? I'll be sure to cover this guy up this winter so it'll grow much bigger next year.

I'm thinking of grafting better quality figs on this guy next spring. I wonder how they'll do on this tree.
