I bought a 3-4 year old tree tonight and ended up topping it before the drive home.  I dont have the space to root everything so would love to share the bounty with others.

$2 a cutting

$5 shipping up to 8 cuttings
$8 shipping up to 20 cuttings

Tree looks like it was a great grower although the guy had it in a shady spot.  They said it produced a lot of large juicy figs for them last year, they were sweet, had a green exterior and a redish pink interior.  The tree was relatively dormant (some small buds starting to break because its been 70s the past couple days).

Cuttings will be 6-8" long at least 3-4 nodes, and they will all be larger than the size of a pencil or larger, most will be sharpie sized.  Im cutting them up now, you wont get any fresher!

Im calling them "Conways Emerald Unk" for now.  Im hoping they are Adriatic or Atreano but I wont really know until I see fruit / leaves next season.

Comment or PM me please!

This is very similar to how I do them.  I use bigger bags in general but I also just use packing tape as its easier to deal with that a piece of rope or string.  It works well though.

That time of year to be selling off some cuttings! I am starting with a few of my better unks that grow locally here at the beach in NC.  Cuttings will range from 6-8" long will all have at least 3-4 nodes on them if not more.  They will all be larger than the diameter of a pencil on up.

All of these cuttings will be freshly taken from dormant trees this week and will be shipped at the end of the week USPS to you.  Payment via Paypal, just PM me or comment your order and I will PM you.

$3 Cuttings:
Celeste - (Plenty available) $3 each or 4 for $10
One of the more popular local figs, small but very sweet.

TI Green Unk - (Sold Out) $3 each or 4 for $10
This is a Green exterior with a light red interior. Late ripening and very well growing unknown in Topail Island NC.

Kadota - (SOLD OUT)
This is the favorite of the 10 year old in the household. She loves how sweet it is.

$4 Cuttings:
Desert King - (only 6 cuttings available) $4 each
Great breba, if you dont have the wasp, you will only get breba out of these. Its worth having one in a pot if you dont already have it.

Kure Beach Unk (KB UNK)- (Plenty available) $4 each or 4 for $15
Huge purple fig, this is a must have unk and loved by a lot of people.

$5 Cuttings:

Musas Favorite Fig - (Plenty available) $5 each or 4 for $18

This is a good sized green fig with a pink interior. The previous owner loved this fig so much he had me to talk to the new business owner to get an airlayer for him.  These root incredibly well and its a very good grower.

Musas Golden Unk - (Plenty available) $5 each or 4 for $18
These are slightly elongated figs that look very close to Doree but there are some differences. The exterior has a cool color gradient and the inside looks like a sunrise with its yellows and orange.

Musas Brown Turkey - (Plenty available) $4 each or 4 for $18
These are large light purple/brown figs that have 13"+ leaves.

TI Black Mission - (Plenty available) $5 each or 4 for $18
This is my families personal favorite unknown fig. We use it to make jams and fig & feta pizzas. Dark purple exterior, red interior. Very easy to root and prolific! Also from Topsail Island NC.

I didnt see a reply to your original question which is why I posted asking.  I had ordered some trees in 2015 that I am currently still waiting on.

As for if it makes sense for you to place an order.  I think the 2016 / 2017 orders will go much smoother than the 2015 orders have.  He had a lot of infrastructure to build to be able to try to get everything going.  I think we all knew there would be growing pains from taking on such a big task.  All of the photos show you those growing pains and what he has been able to accomplish.  All of those things will make new orders from 2016 / 2017 a ton easier to fulfill than the first orders he got.  So even though I am still interested in an update on our 2015 orders... I would personally not have an issue ordering now for 2017.  I think most of the logistics will be worked out well for those orders.

Its a very impressive setup thats youve built up and will be a great business going forward with the capacity you have!

Is there an answer to the progress from a standpoint of how many orders have been shipped and perhaps when the rest of 2015 orders may ship?

There was a ton of great info in this thread and it seems like some fine collectors of BT!  I recently found a fig tree that ive been told was English Brown Turkey but im unsure and was hoping someone may be able to give me a little more information/ advice as to which variant if any it could be.  The tree itself is relatively large, maybe 15-20ft tall with the same size spread.  Lots of low sprawling branches a few inches off the ground, incredibly fast rooter, decent sized figs and leaves that are 12"x12" or larger.  It is unfortunately a tree that is in a public place so most of the figs are pulled before they are ripe so its hard to get a ripe fig pic but I did get a pic of a fig that was on its way to being ripe.

Any thoughts on A. Is it a BT?  B. If yes what kind might it be?  Its located in Coastal North Carolina.  For size reference, that bag is a 1 gallon ziploc.

I was out mapping more local trees today to come back and visit when they are fruiting so I know which doors to knock on for cuttings [smile] While driving around I saw a beach vacation rental that apparently had an over zealous maintenance guy... There was literally 50% of a fig tree sitting in a pile on the ground next to the road. It had been cut earlier in the day, leaves were still green, some branches were as thick as my wrist!

Long story short, I rescued most of the branches, chopped them up into cuttings and wanted to offer them up to people here. Whether you need some root stock, cuttings to experiment with, or are interested in growing a vigorous growing tree that does fruit even if it could end up being Brown turkey... Maybe its something more excit  ing. Im calling them "CB2 Unk" as they are the second tree from Carolina Beach, I have been able to secure cuttings from.
Here is my thought for cost:
6 good sized cuttings with 4+ nodes each for $10 shipped

10 good sized cuttings with 4+ nodes each for $14 shipped

Shipping: This is US shipping only, I will ship to CA but buyer is responsible if items dont show up. I will provide usps tracking number.

The $ covers shipping, wrap, packaging materials, paypal fees, and some of the time cutting, packing, and mailing.

Let me know if anyone is interested, I have a lot of them, if you want more than 6 we can make something work. Also if you have something fun to trade, let me know and we can just do it shipping for shipping. Basically I didnt want to see this stuff go to waste and please dont make me root it all myself LOL
Let me know if youd like some and I will send you my paypal address.

This is a pic of some on the next rack down.  A few are further into the growth state and some started life as larger cuttings.  Also this is my first go at this so I swapped mix a couple times / used what I had.. next time I will stick with 1 type so its easier to manage and know whats going on.

The wilted ones are probably toast, when the leaves dry up without dropping it means the stem is dead, a live growth will drop the leaf if it needs to. Do an investigation, my guess is you have wet and dry spots in the mix.

I will pull the dead looking ones out and bare root a couple and see what they look like as well as what the mix looks like.  I definitely dont think its an overwatering problem because they arent getting that much. I guess I was going with little water more often as opposed to more water less often.  I will do some autopsies tomorrow and see what im looking at.  My guess is you are correct, there are pockets of mix that never get water because of the small amounts im putting into the pots right now.

From the photos I don't think your lights are an issue since many of the plants look OK and I can't see any burn damage on the leaves.  Look for burn marks on leaves or test by putting your hand where the top of plant is. if it feels hot or you see sunburn on leaves then raise the lights a bit.

Fertilizer is great but I am sure I have killed some plants by burning the roots with too strong a feeding.
Whatever the label says use much less (1/3) of label recommendation is fine for young rooted cuttings.  Water them with just water before feeding them.

The yellowing leaves could indicate overwatering.
This is consistent with the leaves wilting due to the roots rotting.  Before watering check the soil moisture deep down in the pot.  Bring up some soil and see if it is wet or cut a hole in the side of pot to look.  If the mix stays wet it will rot the young roots and stem.

I would re-pot some of the problem ones and check the roots and stem for rot.  Re-pot in pre dampened soil not wet soil.
If you don't want to repot do what recomer said or stick newspaper/paper towels in the drainage holes to wick away the water.

Thank you Pino, the only fertilizer I have really given them was that 1/4 teaspoon of worm castings so I dont know that its been too much of.  The odd thing is as I have pointed out and you also did, all of these cuttings have been treated the same and get the same which is part of why im wondering if some of these are just routine die off from trying to limp along anything I could.  I can honestly say its not too much water, if anything I would think it was too little water.  The pots get light and with the 1/4 cup of water I give them it is definitely not saturating anything in the pot.  They are almost fully drying out in 3 days.

Also I realize everyone is going to have different thoughts, ideas, suggestions, and experiences that work for them.  Please dont take offense to anything I rebut with info on whats going on with mine.  Im just trying to explain to the best of my ability what is going on.  For example the 75% perlite, very likely works for that poster, that ratio is no where near what any of this is and im not going to remix everything to that, I have a couple potted in that ratio and honestly they arent doing as well as the others are in general.  So for me with my watering, with my setup, that ratio isnt optimal so I need to go with a different solution.

- How do you know the condition of the roots? I have seen (many times) a cutting with a lot of leaf growth yet little if any roots.
I obviously do not have xray vision so short of uprooting them I can just tell you they were rooted in other smaller pots and upotted when the roots looked good enough to up pot.  Again I have 150 cuttings and theres about 20 of them that are having these issues. So what ive been doing has been working on almost 90% of them.

- What is the percentage of perlite in your soil mix? I use 75%.
Both HP Promix and the mix i was making have much less than 75% perlite and the other cuttings that are doing fine are also in this mix.  So I dont know if that is the issue but I guess it could be.  Although im willing to bet in a 75% perlite mix, bottom watering wouldnt work like the other poster said since no water would really be retained or soaked up.

- What is the temperature at the leaves? Bright lights can dry out and burn leaves quickly.
This is a possible issue and one im wondering about but again all the "happy" ones are sitting on the same rack as the "sad" ones.  So its tough to blame the light in my mind.  Temp of leaves is between 82-85 on average, I just checked 10 of them.

- What do you consider your "gnat load"? As soon as I see 1 &^*^%#@ gnat I add gnatrol, nematodes and yellow sticky paper.
I dont have a ratio to go by but I will tell you that I can see some flying around.  With that said I was told they only really bother dying plant material so if the plants were healthy they shouldnt be the issue but they very well could be. I will pick up some gnat control and go with it.

- Do you spray your cuttings with water?

I did originally when they were weaning off but no I have no in the past 3 weeks as there has been no need to and I didnt want to risk burning the leaves by doing it.

I applaud you for thinking of the figs first.  Ive woken up in a cold sweat wondering if I put the heater on in the garage for the figs and the worms!  I wonder if you could get away with putting a mix in a spray bottle and just giving them a good spray every 30 mins to an hour.  The cloning bin has to stay humid enough to get you through a little bit without worry.  I am just starting out with a cloner so havent had to have this issue yet but thank you for giving me one more thing fig / plant related to lose sleep over haha

(Let me precursor this with the fact that I have been searching both forums and while there is great information, omg is there a lot of information in a bunch of random places and about different pieces of this.  Im hoping someone may be willing to answer this specific question so I know im going down the right path.)

I have a bunch of cuttings that I rooted and weened off of humidity and are currently under some 6500k lights.  About 20% of them are having this problem... They are all 5-8" tall they all had a few smaller leaves, that were green and growing.  They are now wilted and dropping those leaves.  They have been out of humidity long enough that I dont think its a readjustment thing.  I water them with maybe 1/4-1/2 a cup of water every 3 days.  I dont think its over watering as the 1 gallon pots get pretty dry in between waterings and they never actually get fully saturated (should they)?  The lights are on for 14-16 hours a day, they are in about 82 degrees and 54% humidity.  I do have some fungus gnats but it doesnt seem to be a huge infestation and have a lot of these that are 100% happy and growing.  The other thing I did do was put in 1/4 teaspoon of worm castings into each pot a few weeks ago.

What could the problem be? Would it be the fertilizer? Would it be not enough water? Would it be not enough light or too much light?  These are in mostly Promix HP.  I have ones in my own mix and MG mix that are doing fine on the same rack.  Are they just weak cuttings in the first place? Is it worth trying to save them?

Thank you in advance.  Here is a photo of some of them.

Im still working on my setups to be more efficient but this is what ive got so far.  The wooden thing is a "Seedling greenhouse" I picked up the other day on craigslist for $40.  It has (4) 4ft dual shop lights with new alternated 6500k and 3000k bulbs.  It has 2 fans built into the top of it and a small electric heater with thermostat.  The lights are able to be adjusted from 4" to 30" and all of the sites are double hinged so all open upward like ferrari doors.  This thing is so over engineered, it had to have been some retired engineer that built it.  I cant wait to see how well it works.  For $40 I couldnt pass it up!

Members from the 2 major fig forums almost always offer cuttings for sale when they have them and both have variety lists.  This is a variety list hosted here at F4F http://figs4fun.com/varieties.html for example.

Almost all of my cuttings have come from forum members, even before I knew about the forums it seemed the cuttings I found on craigslist were still from people I later found out were on the forums lol

Goodluck!

^^ Same with my post, I didnt want it to come across as negative, it was merely pointing out Paypals policies.  I too weighed the risks and decided that it was a small amount of money and likely not something worth risking a community reputation over so I did place a small order as well.  I just know a lot of people assume they are protected by Paypal transactions, this is a different sort since its over such a longer period of time.

The other big thing to consider is there will be 0 buyer protection through PayPal. Their limits are typically 45 days although their docs say up to 180 days of purchase so 6 months. These aren't slated to ship until month 7. I appreciate the deal, I put in a small order, but just wanted people to understand how the TOS with PayPal could effect this if something were to go awry.

OttawanZ5 I think you are actually missing the point he is trying to make.  Its not the variety he is after its the location of the tree or the story behind the tree.  For example it could be a celeste, a brown turkey, or a completely unknown variety that just happened to be growing on a historical battle field in his area, it could be that unknown fig tree BrooklynMatty had cuttings of that was a 40 year old tree and survived Sandy.  It could very well be the varieties that grow the very best in his area BUT the tree has to have some sort of story or significance behind it.  I completely get what he is saying because im at that point too.  Im still new but I have almost 175 cuttings, maybe 25 varieties and the 2 that mean the most 2 me are unknowns and its purely because of the history and the story those 2 trees have.

Todd where are you located?

My guess is somewhere along the lines someone didnt have their caps lock on :)  LSU Purple is what it likely started out as.  Ever play the game "Telephone", its amazing what starts at one end is never the same as what comes out the other.
