Subject: Where have all the flowers gone? Replies: 32

Hi, as someone who has been involved in other groups, I think people visit less in summer. There are lawns, gardens, trees, and other yardwork, vacations, and having the kids around the house again. Also those graduations, weddings, and family reunions to keep people busy. I would think the forum would be busiest in the months when the trees are dormant and the gardens have all been harvested. Then I can plan for new aquisitions and enjoy remembering what I have learned over the growing season. I find I use search more than anything else, being a newb it's easy to be overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information. Sometimes there is so much conflicting information available it's hard to know what applies to you geograpically, especially when trying to recall it later. I PMed those living closest to me and I am grateful for their kindness in sparing me years of trial and error. I am also grateful for those who were generous with cuttings and plants for setting me on my way. I remember agonizing over the best way to start those first precious cuttings! I'm just happy all these forums are available.

I could never find out much under "figgy pudding" so I tried "english fig pudding" there were a number of hits.  This one is interesting http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=17356371.  I guess I can finally tell my DD what figgy pudding is.  She asks for it every year at Christmas time.

Hi, I am new and  I live in zone 8b, Tallahassee, Florida. Right now I have western light, and some bright filtered shade to work with, at least in November, thanks to a very tall live oak. There's also the expected  heat and humidity. My fresh fig experience is limited to the grocery store. I really enjoyed mission, especially when soft and slightly wrinkled.  I would love suggestions. Thanks, Jamie

I have been doing a lot of reading on where I live and on fig flavors. I would like to start with  VdB, JH Adriatic, Chicago Hardy,  or if I"m really dreaming anything CDD, but would be tickled with anything rich and delicious.
