Has anybody bought LSU Purple from Sheila's Tropicals in Fruit Cove, Florida? They sell on Etsy and on their own website. LSU Purple is the only fig they sell, the rest are citrus and other tropicals.

Elfarch, unfortunately Canton is 30+ miles south and at least 1,000 foot elevation below me, so I can not go by "the stores stock what is appropriate for your zone" concept.

Tylerj, was White Marseille any good?

I was at Walmart yestrday in Canton, Georgia and spotted some absolutely beautiful fig trees. The label said Ischia but did not specify green or black. They were a good 20" tall, loaded with fruit and very fresh lush, healthy plants.
I did not buy one and now am kicking myself, beause I wanted to research the variety and was unsure whether they would thrive at my higher elevation which put me in zone 7a. Because of extreme winds, and freak storms, etc. I usually plant as if I am in zone 6b.

QUESTIONS:
1. FLAVOR/QUALITY - Am I correct in assume that Green Ischia is the more common variety? If it is either green or black it is a good fig?
2. HARDINESS - will Ischias require special protection in zones 6b/7a or planting in a container and moving into a sheltered area in winter?

Our 80# mixed lab Miss Kitty can smell them coming, but she wont take kindly to being outside full-time. She's a spoiled Papa's Girl. I'm thinking an electric fence will be necessary, Tractor Supply, here we come again!

Newbie here in the North Georgia Mountains. Just planted two Mirabelle plum trees, one Metz and one Parfum de Septembre I ordered them from Raintree after I got back from a trip to France last fall when they were in season and fell in live with the delectable jam. Was super impressed with the quality of the trees which were 4 feet tall. Our challenge immediately after planting them was to address the need for deer and bear protection. We installed an 8' fence around them and will be spraying with some type of deer spray. I am not confident at all that the fencing will withstand a bear attack. Any suggestions on keeping bears from the trees?

I am so glad ai found this comment. I'm in the N Georgia mountains zone 7A, so it looks like I should for get about O'Rourke and go for the IC (Improved Celeste? ). Is there a recommended source?

How does Native Black do in Charlotte?
