They ask that people who don't bring scions wait till those that did get first crack at the exchange. Usually just a few minutes, then everyone goes. They are usually labeled and spread out on tables.  Bring plastic bags, a sharpie and tape to mark the cuttings you take.  I do not think they allow citrus to be exchanged because of the possibility of spreading disease.

How long ago did they add the landscaping stones and mulch around the tree, did it decline a year or two after?  They look more recent than the rest of the cement blocks. Raising the grade that much on most trees will kill them. A tree that size should not look like a telephone pole coming out of the ground. Some of the flair should be exposed. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/06/07/AR2006060700521.html

Things are looking up for Stroz.  I pick the other one today and it tasted like strawberry jam. I think it should have been picked a day sooner.

I picked my first Stroz today.  I should have given it another day or two to fully ripen. The squirrels have been hitting the tree hard the last few days, so I didn't want to lose this one.  Its an interesting looking fig, but it was kind of tasteless. I have one more beginning to ripen, we will see how that one turns out. Hopefully they will improve with age.

I thought I would bump this back up with the hope of identifying this tree. Here is one of the Breba figs. Thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I had a bunch of the yellow sticky 3x5 cards. I hung them in the trees where I saw them. We will see what happens.

Thanks for your help.

I noticed some of these bugs on two of my fig trees yesterday. They were hanging out on the branches, not the leaves.
Any idea what they are?

The water line is there to get water into the green house.  It is not set up to mist or spray the block.  But that may be worth trying in the future as it would be easy to set up.

There are fans mounted in the top of the green house to pull air through, but the electric was pretty sketchy so I cut it all going to the green house. I will need to run new electric to it at some point in the future.

I set up a little misting system on one side to water vegetable starts.  We use a soil blocker for seed starts.

We were renting a place a couple of blocks from Farnsworth park while we were renovating.  One night  two sheriff cars were escorting a bear down the street.  The person that I get goat manure from lives closer to the hills and has bears on the property every so often.  I see a lot of coyotes and recently saw a bobcat.

Not yet....

I have hardware cloth on the bottom of all my raised beds.  I had to put fences around the raised beds when I put seedlings out they have gotten pulled out. but once the plants mature I have not had any issues.
Mainly skunks and raccoons come through at night.

I see signs of gophers but I have not tried to get rid of them yet.

I need to do something about the birds though.  They go after the dark figs, but don't seem to touch the ripe green ones.

We got pretty lucky when we bought this place, the previous owner put in a lot of fruit trees.  Anna apple, red baron peach, Persimmon, Pomegranate, very large mature grapefruit, Kumquat, mature black berry, Lemon, orange, tangerine. Probably more that i'm forgetting.

The previous owner did a lot of Hydroponic gardening so I have been working on taking up a lot of the grass, building raised beds, bringing in manure, mulching, building compost bins and we have 3 worm bins in the basement, etc.

The property even came with a green house, that is a pretty interesting design.  It is all dug out and he has concrete blocks lined up to get airflow to try and keep it cool in the summer.  I have used it to start seeds in the winter. but it still gets too hot in the summer.  We are not sure if we are going to keep it or not.

I found a guy in the valley who sells 24in boxes for 14.00 so I have a lot of trees in boxes till we decide where to put them. 5 Australian finger limes, 2 Yuzu lemons, 4in one apple and two Avocados.

We joined the CRFG and played with grafting, we had pretty good success for our first attempt.

I look forward to meeting some of the local fig enthusiasts mentioned to exchange ideas cuttings etc.

Here are some pics of the green house.

Thank you .... I'll wait till some ripen a bit then post more pics.

"Soon you probably have a yard full of fig trees."

Ha Ha that has already begun.

Diana Fig, I only had a few figs on it last year, but its starting to load up this year.

Turquesa Fig, I had this one in a 24in box last year.  The fruit would get huge and burst open. The few that ripened correctly were fantastic.  I hope I have better luck with it in the ground this year.

Here are Texas Ever Bearing, Yellow long neck, Green Ishia, and two mystery ones I found about 6in tall in my yard last fall.

I purchased this property in Altadena CA about 2 years ago, and I inherited two fig trees with it.

One I'm pretty sure is a black mission, but no idea on the other one. I know they are tough to identify but I would appreciate any guesses.

The tree was half dead when we purchased the house and had zero figs on it.  I cut it back hard and it is coming back nicely. Last year it had a handful of figs on it. They are a green fig that were on the small side but very good, almost honey taste.

This year the breba crop is coming in super strong.
