Vasile, I agree, Adriatic JH has been the best for us NJ gardeners. what a great fig, thanks to Joe Hood. It has been the overall best fig in my backyard. My question is I haven't found a black fig with such an impact. When I started tasting these incredible white figs it was worth all the hard work that I put into years of selecting. What black fig would you say is at the same level as this Gem. Thank you always for your wisdom.

vasile, glad to see your back. I have a question for you. I am planting some fig trees in the ground next spring. I am prepared to protect trees from north jersey winters. A Lot of work; so I want your opinion on the tastiest.  If you were going on taste alone.

white: stella, Adriatic jh, or battaglia verde

black: malta black, gino, or ronde de bordeux

                         much appreciated, anthony

I'm so pleased to see some excitement and happiness from two of the leading experts on fig cultivars that are grown in my area. I have been checking the forum every night and hoping that everone is having a better growing season than I am here in NJ. Gorgi and Vasile I will always appreciate your knowledge and generosity. I also love Adriatic JH. Vasile, you stated only a handful will deliver in our terrible summer climate. What varieties are they?      Stay Well, Antonio

Gorgi, You once mentioned you will never again grow fig trees in containers trained to a multi-stemmed tree. Going foward you will train them to a single stem. Will you please tell me the reason why you made this decision. Just thinking of changing the way I train and prune my trees.

                                               Thanks for your knowledge

Hi, Just ate my first two Stella Figs.WOW, What a great tasting fig!I'm not sure if they were Breba or not because I have many more on tree that are at a different growing stage.I've read on ONE Green World website that this tree is valuable to the PNW area because of their cooler summers.I am wondering if I plant this tree ingound and with proper protection Will it produce enough ripe fruit to be worth it.I live in North Jersey Zone 6.Thanks everyone for their help and expertise.

Herman, Yes, My VDB that I received from Rolling River{Labeled Negronne} is much earlier and way more productive than VDB from Edible Landscaping.I posted this observation last year or two years ago. The difference is Amazing. My Petite Abique from Leon and my VDB from RR are growing side by side and I have been eating more than a dozen ripe figs already. My petite abique fruits are just starting to change color and swell.

Hello, Last year was a crappy summer to grow figs (here in NJ).Yet JH Adriatic fig grew productively. Also grew the best tasting figs I ever had ! I also want to mention while some of my best cultivers were splitting badly from all the rain we had; this fig was superb in taste with NO splitting. A very strong strawberry taste.I think it is the skin that has the strawberry flavor rather than the pulp. Anyway if you have one of these fig trees you will know what I am talking about and if you don't then you should get one. My sincere thanks to the source and for the kind gentleman who gave me a small rooted cutting.

Hey Gang, Hanc's atreano was given to me as an air layer by a good friend on the forum, but it died soon after I potted it up. Since then, I bought an atreano from Rolling River and this summer it produced excellent figs. Rating an 8 out of 10. This variety is a keeper in my back yard.

Hi Vasile, I agree Atreano is a great tasting fig and Gene's Paradiso is also great tasting. I don't have the other; however the fig that is a couple of notches higher is JH Adriatic. I rated Atreano and Paradiso an 8. J H Adriatic is a 10. Even with the cool summer and with all the rain this fig is my number one fig of all time so far!!! I highly recommend this variety for our zone 6 climate.

Hi Vasile, I was wondering the fig lineage of this Atreano.I recieved an airlayer of the original Atreano from a friend on this forum but it did not survive so I purchased one from Rolling River.Jon mentioned that yours and the one from Rolling River are not the same.Living on the East Coast like you and George I need similiar varieties that will grow under our conditions.Vasile if you are not sure of the origin George can you please chime in! Thanks so much.

Hi Henry, Yes the English Brown Turkey I have produce many breba which are descent tasting but not as tasty as the main crop.So like Herman states it is not the same tree as violetta. This summer I will cut off the breba so the main crop comes earlier.
